Podcasts

Metta Hour Podcast – Sharon Salzberg. One of the leading mindfulness meditation teachers in the US; she and a few others studied in the East and brought meditation to the US in the 1970’s. She’s accessible, funny and full of down-to-earth heart.

Insight Hour with Joseph Goldstein – like Sharon, he is a pioneer of Western mindfulness (Together with Jack Kornfield, they founded IMS – the Insight Meditation Society in Barre MA). He is a very clear, learned teacher – a bit more cerebral than Sharon.

Heart Wisdom - Jack Kornfield See above. Leading teacher in the West, very heart-centered.

Tricycle Talks – Tricycle is the premier Buddhist magazine publication; online now. Great thing to subscribe to if you want to learn more about Buddhism and mindfulness. This podcast has interviews with wise teachers and writers that are teaching dharma but in accessible terms.

Wisdom Podcast – a lot like Tricycle. Wisdom is also a publishing house.

Dharmaseed – this will have the most Buddhist-heavy podcasts, most of them are recordings from dharma talks given by master teachers in the US primarily, rather than interviews. Huge collection of dharma talks.

Insight Meditation Society – more dharma talks, like Dharmaseed, but just those given at IMS.

Dropping In – put out by Omega Institute, so a variety of interesting topics and people. Accessible. Not all about meditation.

Being Well – Rick Hanson and his son. Rick is all about meditation and neuroscience components, but very accessible. He’s a psychologist in the mindfulness world.

Ten Percent Happier – Former ABC anchor Dan Harris, author. He commands some pretty great guests, including the Dalai Lama! His mission is to bring mindfulness and meditation to skeptics.

The thought manifests as the word;
The word manifests as the deed;
The deed develops into a habit;
And habit hardens into character.
So watch the thought and its ways with care,
And let it spring from love
Born out of concern for all beings.
— The Buddha

If you truly want to discover a lasting sense of peace and contentment, you need to learn to rest your mind. The simplest way to clear water obscured by mud and other sediments is to allow the water to grow still. In the same way, if you allow the mind to come to rest, ignorance, attachment, aversion, and all other mental afflictions will gradually settle, and the compassion, clarity, and infinite expanse of your mind’s real nature will be revealed.
— Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche

We are not the survival of the fittest, we are the survival of the nurtured.
— Louis Cozolino

Encountering sufferings will definitely contribute to the elevation of your spiritual practice, provided you are able to transform the calamity and misfortune into the path.
— HH The Dalai Lama
